From my earliest memory, creating something to fit
an occasion, a gift, or a personal need was my
driver.  As a small child, I spent a great deal of time
“figuring things out” so that I could craft something
to fit whatever the need or interest was at that time,
whether it be building a fort, sketching portraits of
my family and friends, or designing and making
costumes for Halloween or a neighborhood “Let’s
put on a show” project.  My grandmother, aunt, and
mother were excellent seamstresses and that
magical concept of creating something beautiful out
of a piece of fabric fueled my interest in clothing and
costume design and construction.  The drive to
create continued into my teen years where my
interests led me to studies in voice, acting, music,
dance, printing, and studio and commercial art.
Before I graduated from High School, additional
experiences included choreography, directing, and
set design, which skills I honed in various venues.  It
didn’t occur to me at that time that these “fun”
experiences would lead me to the career that has
been my life’s passion.  That is the bit of “wisdom”
that I pass on to my students – to “put the things that
you have experienced, however unrelated as they
may seem, in your back pocket and, someday, you
may find you have accumulated a career!”   My
professional career has included (surprise!) singing,
dancing, acting, costume, hair and set designing,
choreography, editing, and costume and set
construction.  I have had the great fortune to have
worked and learned from some of the most creative
people in the performing arts field.  It was to this end
that JovoDance was born…… the “place” where the
sum of all my experiences and successes has found
a home under one roof.  Hopefully, anything that your
production needs can be found there, also.
